Recently, I was given this compliment: “You make this mom thing look so easy!” Why, thank you! However, you are seeing a facade. I’m just as panic stricken as the rest of you. But when we are moms, we have to put our game face on. So, in honor of all the mom’s out there who are mom-ing as hard as they can, here’s a list of forgivable mom moments that Pinterest and the rest of social media doesn’t want you to see: On Cleaning What’s that? Your mom is in the area and has decided to drop in just…

One thing that separates me from others is my status as a crunchy mama. Crunchy, as defined by www.urbandictionary.com, means “persons who have adjusted or altered their lifestyle for environmental reasons.” Namely, I decided some time ago that I wanted to take control of some part of my family’s environment: our food. I realized in my twenties that eating junky food made me feel junky. Food is the fuel that drives us. Consuming healthy food made me feel lighter (and be lighter). So, I started making sure that our meals weren’t processed food. We stopped eating at fast food restaurants;…

Gasp! It’s almost Christmas! Of course, that certainly is a far cry better than the first day of school. So, even though we are ill-prepared to deal with the holidays, let’s look forward toward family, friends, and cookies! That will absolutely help us get through this first day of school. We can do this, people! In addition to that tidbit of encouragement, I wanted to share some extra special advice as we wind down 2017. And that’s: ask for help. That’s right. I said it. I know it’s something that we all struggle with. How could we not? The American…

Americans have over one trillion dollars in debt. Imagining that number hurts my brain just a little. Well, maybe a lot. What hurts even more is knowing that I am stuck in it with the rest of America. Understanding this is what caused me to start thinking about my children’s financial futures: how was I going to ensure that they didn’t repeat their mother’s mistakes? I stumbled upon an answer inadvertently. I have a wonderful friend, Amanda, who is on top of everything parenting. In an effort to try to help her teen understand money, she had started tracking chores…

It’s fall sports season! Like many parents out there, I’m staring down the schedule with horror. Is it a coincidence that Halloween and fall sports season coexist in the same plane? I’m not sure what your schedule looks like, but ours is pretty frightening. My daughter will officially have dance every day. You read that right: every day! Now, I know that there is a divide among parents: there are those that cherish their family time at home and there are those that cherish the skills and social interaction that extracurricular activities offer. You do you, people. We do dance….

The solar eclipse on Monday is the perfect excuse to have some science-related fun with your kids! While projects might not be your thing, this project is ridiculously simple. (Scout’s honor) Impromptu Gathering My daughter’s birthday is in May, and we never officially had a birthday party for her friends. There was one thing and then another and another until was August. The upcoming solar eclipse provided a perfect opportunity to get some of her friends together. Plus, if I called it a belated birthday party, there could be cake! I called on four friends to meet at our house…

Road Trip! We took a much needed break from our house and all of its associated needs this weekend, and we jumped into the car for a road trip! About 3.5 hours from us is the quiet little town of Beacon, NY. The town is situated near the Hudson River, and it hosts many artists plying their craft. It was the perfect spot to have a mini-vacation.  This was a family-oriented visit — my sister-in-law lives with her husband in a pretty loft apartment. We got to take a look at something supremely special while we were there: their built-from-the-ground-up…

Budget Fails This week was a FAIL! Them’s the breaks, eh? I had to put in some hours at work this week (I know, most people do that every week), but the problem is: I was not prepared. Now, you might never be prepared to hear the alarm go off, to crawl out of a warm cozy nest–I mean bed, to head out of the house before a third cup of coffee. However, I’m not talking about this kind of prepared. I’m talking about budgeting — a seriously dirty word.  My name is Amber, and I am a recovering spend-a-holic….

My mother-in-law just sold her house… in one day… one. This is monumental. She has been dreaming of moving to Arizona since she was 18 years old. For her sake, I won’t let you know how many total years of wishing that is. How do you sell a house in one day? I check in with R Josh Berczik to find out how to make our dreams come true too. Josh’s visit was quick but informative. He strolled through the rooms in my house making notations (which I quickly wrote down). He’s a bottom line kind of talker, so we…

The neighbors are screaming at each other again — it’s a roaring, angry tirade from one party to another. Not too long ago, such incidents happened in my house too. They all boiled down to one thing: video games. Can we lament the horror that is video games? The kids are pinned to a phone, an ipad, a computer, a video gaming system for hours and hours, and trying to pull them away, kicking and screaming, can certainly make a neighbor wonder about calling CPS. Plus, add in the headsets for true gamers. Whomever invented the idea of live gaming…
